| INTRODUCTION |
|
Welcome to our September Newsletter and welcome back from your holidays. Many of you have enjoyed a holiday and some time away from exercise during the summer. Not working out for a couple of weeks is not always a bad thing. In actual fact it can allow your body to rejuvenate and mentally recharge you. We are however not recommending that you adopt this strategy on a regular basis.
According to top trainers and fitness experts, the best workout, is one that includes the mind and spirit as well as the body. Consider some alternatives to your regular exercise regime, be it gym, cardio, running or cycling. For a change of pace, try something like Yoga,
 |
Pilates or Chi Kung, all of which engage your mind, body and spirit. Include these alternative disciplines on a regular basis and feel the difference. On our time table there are various Yoga and Pilates classes and new classes from September include Ballet Fusion on
 |
Monday mornings and Chi Kung on Wednesday lunchtimes. From September there will be some changes to our class prices and our class policy, please read more about this on our website (Contact Us page). To take advantage of our early booking discount, please make sure you have booked and paid for your course by Friday 4th September.
There also some new and exciting workshops happening in September & October; with a 2 part Meditation course, Self Defence for Women and a Funny Women Comedy workshop.
We have finally found ourselves a Chiropodist; Rachael Spencer is available on Wednesday’s to sort out any corns, calluses, hard skin, fungal nails or other foot problems.
The treatment of the month of September will be Reflexology, with £5 off any 1 hour treatment. Reflexology works along holistic principles treating your mind, body and spirit rather than a diagnosis or set of symptoms. For instance, if you are suffering from stress, your body is affected as well as your mind. Similarly, a physical illness can be emotionally draining. Reflexology will help relax, balance and harmonise the whole of your body. Don’t miss out, contact us now to book your session.

Why do some people struggle to lose weight?
There are many reasons why people may have a weight problem and whilst some manage to control their weight easily, others struggle. Some of the reasons for gaining weight may be:
• Using food to satisfy an
emotional need
• Over-compensating for an
unpleasant experience
• Trying to replace something
missing in one’s life e.g. love
• Using eating as a reward
• As a way of handling boredom
• To get attention
• A cycle of eating the wrong
foods such as chocolate or
pastries, or maybe you have
just fallen into the habit of
eating more than you need.
Hypnoanalysis and Hypnotherapy is a very effective way to achieve weight loss and crucially, keep it off. In most cases it usually only takes 3 sessions of hypnotherapy to resolve negative eating habits. However in some cases, if the weight problem has been an issue for many years or lead to obesity, a course of 6 to 8 sessions of hypnoanalysis is recommended, to get to the root cause of the problem and resolve it.
Your reasons for overeating may be a myriad of events or you may feel there is one particular incident in the past where the negative relationship with food began. The incident or event(s) may seem to be insignificant, however the emotion of that event remains trapped in the unconscious mind. These trapped emotions are the problem that needs to be dealt with and resolved for long term release. This can then lead to a normal relationship with food, encouraging a healthy style of eating that will become automatic, easy to adhere to and free of hunger pangs.

Reducing Stress
Easier said than done, stress busters come in many forms. Some techniques recommended by experts are to think positive thoughts. Spend 30 minutes a day doing something you like - soak in a hot tub; walk on the beach or in a park; read a good book; visit a friend; play with your dog; listen to soothing music; watch a funny movie. Get a massage, a facial or a
haircut. Meditate. Count to ten before losing your temper or getting aggravated. Avoid difficult people when possible. Thought for the day: When seeing red, think pink clouds….then float on them.

| PODIATRY / CHIROPODY |
|
Our feet are made for walking, for running and dancing, for working and playing and they carry us around all of our lives, day in and day out. Yet they are often taken for granted and we expect them to function well at all times. They have to tolerate every day stress, like standing too long at work, tight shoes, insufficient airing and too much moisture. Our feet deserves better! They want to be seen and
 |
well cared for. Regular foot care and appropriate shoes can help ensure they are comfortable and functioning correctly.
Podiatrists (sometimes called chiropodists) are highly skilled health professionals who have been trained to prevent, diagnose, treat and rehabilitate abnormal conditions of the feet and lower limbs. They also prevent and correct deformity, keep people mobile and active, relieve pain and treat infections.
Basic hygiene and nail cutting may be all that's needed to keep your feet in good health, but when normal feet turn into problem feet, it's best to seek professional help. Some problems are inherited, and some develop from illnesses in middle age, or from the pressure of ill-fitting shoes. A podiatrist gives professional advice and treatment which will assist you in correctly caring for your feet. This should reduce the likelihood of any major foot problems.
The following are some of the conditions treatable:
• Corns & Callus (thick skin)
• Warts & Verrucaes
• Ingrowing Toenails
• Thickened Nails
• Cracked Heels
• Athlete’s Foot and Fungal Nail
Infections
• Conditions requiring arch
supports and insoles
• Foot & Ankle Injuries/Pain
The importance of regular foot care can not be overstated. Our feet are constantly overworked on hard man made surfaces and yet, are quite often the most neglected part of the body.
We would like to welcome Rachael Spencer to the Earthlife team, Rachael is an experienced qualified podiatrist and has a BSc (Hons) degree in podiatry and provides podiatry and chiropody services throughout West London.
 |
Rachael has considerable experience in providing podiatry services to all age groups and has worked for the NHS for a number of years prior to starting her own private practice.
Chiropody session are now available on Wednesday’s at Earthlife, please contact us on 020 8940 0888 to book your session.

£5 off Reflexology throughout September and October.
Reflexology is a treatment where the therapist works primarily on your feet. The feet have reflex points which correspond to every part of the body and working these reflexes promotes deep relaxation, allowing the body and mind to rest and return to a state of balance.
Reflexology can be used to treat a wide variety of acute and chronic conditions, including stress related problems, sleep disorders, hormonal imbalance, infertility, pregnancy issues, arthritis, digestive disorders and many more.
