| INTRODUCTION |
|
Autumn is here! Temperatures are falling and the trees are dropping their leaves. Christmas is just around the corner and time has come again to think of what gifts to get for family and friends. We have a range of fantastic presents, suitable for all ages, and for both men and women; have a look further on.
In the current economy, we can all use a little pampering and at Earthlife we would like to help your money stretch a little bit further. We have 4 treatment discounts on offer for November and December to help get you ready for the Party season.
Pilates has become an extremely popular form of exercise and is enjoyed by both men and women, who want to strengthen their core muscles and avoid back trouble. Pilates exercises consist of controlled movements that tone and strengthen the body, done either on a mat or using special equipment. The goal is to increase strength, flexibility, endurance, balance and coordination without adding bulk to your muscles. We have 3 new beginners’ classes starting in November, plus an intermediate and a beginners level 2 class. Check our schedule for timings.
To take advantage of the 10% early booking discount, please make sure you book and pay your course by Friday 30th October.

BACK PAIN PREVENTION
With PILATES |
|
Back pain is a big issue for more and more people these days and it can occur suddenly or slowly build to the point where it causes a notable impediment to daily activities. There are various types of back pain; with symptoms ranging from a dull, constant ache to a sharp pain stopping any activity on the spot. It is a common belief that it is something that just happens with age, but there are also other contributors, such as bad posture, poor flexibility, weak abdominals or lower back muscles.
So what can be done to prevent back pain and ensure the important muscles are not just in better condition, but are also able to carry out the actions that they are supposed to? A programme of exercise routine such as Pilates is ideal. Pilates focuses on building your body's core strength and improving your posture through a series of low repetition low impact conditioning exercises.
The major attraction of the Pilates method is that it is flexible and suitable for anyone, regardless
 |
of experience, gender, age and size. The movements are focused around the back and help place the spine back into alignment. Exercises are slow in movement, which helps to build the muscles from the inside out. The results of Pilates and stretching are less tense muscles and a stronger body from the core outward. Pilates goes far beyond your core muscles however and not only provides a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn't even know you had!), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.
 |
The best way to get started with Pilates is to join a beginner’s class and learn the basics from a qualified pilates teacher in a small group. We have 3 beginner’s classes starting this term; Tuesday evening 18:00, Wednesday evening 20:30 and Friday morning at 10:30. There are also classes for the ones that have done some Pilates in the past, check our timetable for more information. Our classes have a maximum of 8-9 people to ensure you get the attention you require throughout your class.

| ZUMBA® |
|
Let's face it, working out can be healthy, rewarding and beneficial. Working out can be lots of things, but it's never been known to be an exhilarating experience…UNTIL NOW!
 |
Zumba eliminates the “work” from “working out” by combining amazing, irresistible Latin music with dynamic, yet simple exercise moves to create a one-of-a-kind fitness program that will blow you away. Zumba® fanatics achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exciting hour of calorie-burning, body-energising, awe-inspiring movements, meant to engage and captivate for life! The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Zumba magically motivates the body to efficiently tone all muscle groups, incorporate full range of motion and improve the circulation.
Zumba uses steps from all the styles of Latin dance like Merengue, Mambo, Salsa, Samba, Bachata, Reggaeton, Cumbia with a few hip hop moves and then adds a few keep fit moves, mixed in some Latin sounds and a lot of fun and there you have Zumba. Even those with two left feet are successful in a Zumba class because of the natural flow of the simple steps that radiate though the body in sync with the music.
We are starting new classes on Monday mornings at 09:30-10:30 – call us to book your space now, as there has been a lot of interest already. Limited spaces. Contact Earthlife on 020 8940 0888 or info@earth-life.co.uk.

| NUTRITIONAL THERAPY |
|
Earthlife is very pleased to introduce Hilary Davies, a Nutritional Therapist, who is joining us from 6th January.
Hilary has 18 years experience in health care – 12 years in nursing and 6 years practicing nutrition and so is able to appreciate medical approach and background. She trained at the renowned Institute for Optimum Nutrition in London, U.K. and is a full member of BANT – The British Association of Nutritional Therapists.
Hilary recognises that we are all individuals with different bodies, lifestyles and demands, which can make change easy for some and more difficult for others. She combines nutritional therapy with life coaching principles. This means she enables you to incorporate change within your existing lifestyle rather than trying to force you to make changes that are difficult to maintain. Hilary firmly believes that it is gaining the understanding of your individual nutritional needs that ignites your own natural motivation.
The benefits of good nutrition are many. Besides helping you maintain a healthy weight, good nutrition is essential for the body and all its systems to function optimally throughout your life. A healthy diet provides energy,
 |
keeps your immune system strong, promotes good sleep, and gives the body what it needs to stay healthy. When you consider the benefits of good nutrition, it's easier to eat healthy.
There is almost no condition that could NOT benefit from improved nutrition. However, to give you an idea of those that most often respond well to nutritional therapy, Hilary has the greatest experience with the conditions listed below:
Adrenal fatigue, Arthritis, Bloating, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Diabetes, Digestive problems, Eczema, Female hormone problems, Fibromyalgia, Frequent Infections, IBS, Infertility (male and female), Insomnia, Menopausal symptoms, PMS, Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), Psoriasis, Spots/acne, Stress conditions, Tired All The Time, Weight management, and much more.....
Hilary will be available on Wednesday’s for 1-2-1 appointments and will also conduct a workshop on 16th January. In a consultation she can prepare an optimum nutrition plan based on your lifestyle and case history to help you feel and achieve the improvements you want. Hilary thoroughly listens to you and gives you an understanding and practical perspective on how to improve your health with nutritional means. You will NOT simply be “put on a diet”! To book your appointment, please contact us on 020 8940 0888 or info@earth-life.co.uk.

| BOOST YOUR IMMUNE SYSTEM |
|
The immune system is the body’s protection against viruses and infections. When bacteria enter the body, the immune system will, if healthy, combat the bacteria in order to stop it from spreading throughout the body. When the body becomes ill, the immune system is weakened and has to work harder in order to combat any invaders.
There are steps to take in order to boost the immune system and keep it healthy, such as following a healthy diet, exercising regularly and eliminating harmful substances that can weaken the immune system.
Exercising for at least 20 minutes a day, three times a week, can help keep the immune system healthy by boosting the circulation system. Exercising also helps relieve stress.
 |
It does so by providing an outlet for, and using a lot of, the nervous energy produced by stress. People who experience high stress get more colds, suffer more digestive tract problems and have more frequent bouts of fatigue. Exercise does not have to be a workout in the gym; anything that gets the body sweating, flushing out harmful toxins, will count.
The type of food that you eat also contributes to the health of your immune system. Plenty of fresh fruit and vegetables every day is a must to keep the body in top shape. Any foods that are rich in vitamins, antioxidants and minerals can help keep the immune system healthy. Older people and pregnant women will especially benefit from eating foods that are rich in essential nutrients.
Drink lots of water! Water helps flush harmful toxins from the body and cutting down on drinks with high caffeine content is also a good idea. Drinking plenty of fresh fruit juices also provide vitamins, and herbal teas can be a great substitute for regular tea and coffee.
Another big factor in keeping the immune system healthy is the amount of quality sleep that you achieve each night. During the sleep cycle, the body repairs itself in order to remain fighting fit. Sleep is also a great stress reducer.
If you have any serious health issues or are new to exercise, you may want to consult your GP before starting an exercise regime or changing your diet.

All throughout the year, you may have been really good by eating healthly. Try to do the same during Christmas! Eat a good breakfast and lunch even if you know you’ll be going to a party in the evening. Going to a party on an empty stomach can lead to eating too much, too quickly. And remember to drink plenty of water to keep your body working efficiently, as alcohol and coffee can dehydrate your body. Now enjoy!
